Mikel Arteta is looking to end Arsenal's 20-year drought without a Premier League title in the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The Gunners challenged for the domestic crown last season, but an inability to sustain their form allowed Manchester City to complete the first part of their historic European treble.

The north London side are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2017 and Arteta will also want to challenge on the European stage. He will need to improve his squad depth to do so as Arsenal's form faltered following injuries to the likes of William Saliba.

The Sporting News looks at the signings Arsenal have made ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The first signing of the window for Arsenal was Germany international Kai Havertz. The versatile attacker joined from rivals Chelsea for £60.2 million ($76.4m), with many expecting Arteta to slightly alter his formation to fit Havertz into the starting lineup.

Netherlands centreback or rightback Timber joined the club from Ajax on July 14 for an initial fee of £34m ($44.6m), potentially rising to £38.5m ($50.5m).

As with Timber, the deal for Rice has been in the works since the start of July, but progress on wrapping up the agreement has been slow.

Arsenal and West Ham have agreed a £100m/$127m deal (plus £5m/$6.5m), setting a new record for a British player, to bring Rice to the Emirates Stadium, but the deal is not yet done.

The two clubs had agreed on a payment schedule, rumoured to involve the full fee being paid in three instalments across the next 12 months, as Arsenal fans await news on the England star.

Arsenal's plan for Rice has meant former captain Granit Xhaka has moved on to Bayer Leverkusen, with Thomas Partey linked to the Saudi Pro League, as part of a shake up in Arteta's midfield.

Jorginho is expected to stay on, but Rice will improve the overall quality of the Arsenal midfield, while Havertz offers another option in a central three.

In defence, Jakub Kiwior provided back-up for Gabriel Magalhaes on the left side of Arsenal's central defence last season, with Timber expected to back up Saliba on the other side, as Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu cover at full back.

Signing a clinical striker would be a bonus for Arteta. Gabriel Jesus often struggled to dispatch good chances, something Havertz has also had problems with at Chelsea. Folarin Balogun is set to return from his loan spell at Reims, but his future at the club in unclear.

Reiss Nelson has extended his Arsenal contract until 2027, with an option of an additional year, which means it is unlikely the Gunners will buy a new winger.
